#Calgary and surrounding areas experienced a sudden drop in temperature and dumps of #snow on Sept 9th lasting for two days. What is important to note, during this weather system that brought us snow, pay close attention to the radar anomalies seen in the images below. Near Grand Prairie, AB, Spirit River experienced a "hole-punched" #sky right above its radar station. This anomaly, which showed the clouds with a circle through them, lasted over 5 hours.
Furthermore, we noted that areas around the circumference of the #Strathmore weather #radar tower experienced heavy dumps of snow. At some points there were bands of #precipitation going right through the radar centre.
So, we must ask ourselves: a circle of clouds being dissipated right above a #NEXRAD tower, and precipitation being driven right through the centre of another tower -- are these highly-powered devices affecting our #weather?
And one of His #signs is that He created #mates for you from yourselves that you may find #peace in them, and He put between you #love and #compassion; most surely there are signs in this for a #people who reflect. [30:21]
#Lactuca serriola, prickly #lettuce aka #opium lettuce
Lactuca - From the Latin, ‘lac’, ‘milk’ after the #milky #sap in the stems.
Serriola - From the Latin, ‘serro’, ‘saw’ for the saw-tooth like edges to the leaves.
Contains lactucarium which is a #sedative and #painkiller and can be used as a less powerful alternative to opium. Larger doses are reported to be stimulant rather than sedative. Pliny says it is purgative if large amounts are ingested.
Can be collected fresh from your garden or disturbed soils. Leaves can be dried, frozen, or tinctured. This plant is believed to be the ancient ancestor of today's cultivated lettuce, except that grocery produce lettuce does not emit the milky sap, which is white and then dries into a dark brown resin. Perhaps our produce lettuce should be taken out of the genus #Lactuca. Note in the top right photo the sap that has leaked from the plant and hardened as a brown resin on the flower heads. The stems from this plant were juiced to create #tinctures of varying strengths, and leaves left to dry for future teas and / or tinctures.
Are you also wondering how #oil #spills over the years have affected #life, our #soil, #forest fires, #air, #water, and other aspects of ecology and #health? Well, you're not alone... As it turns out, #Alberta has a very long and troubled history of oil pipeline ruptures. The 29 April 2011 oil spill near Little Buffalo was not an anomaly. Since the expansion of the oil and gas industries in Alberta following the 1947 discovery of conventional crude oil resources at #Leduc, the province’s pipeline infrastructure has grown to more than 370,000 kilometres. With such an extensive pipeline system, failures have, since at least the 1970s, been a regular occurrence.
In considering what oil and gas has to do with fires, one must first ask themselves what oil and gas spills do to soil and moisture. Research conducted in India concluded: The effect of crude oil spill on soil causes decrease in soil moisture , porosity, water holding capacity, soil pH and extractable phosphorous whereas increase in total nitrogen, organic #carbon , exchangeable potassium. Spilled #crude oil is certainly responsible for alterations of soil physico-chemical properties.
On July 9th, #Calgary and other nearby cities experienced a day of relatively calm winds. Residents of Calgary experienced very calm conditions (low wind speed) at 7:00 pm, with westerly winds of 16 kmh. At around 8:00 pm, we had strong winds suddenly appearing from the NW of 46 kmh. The wind speed nearly tripled within an hours time! In #RedDeer, this occurred at about 6:00 pm. #Cloud rolls and other strange cloud formations were also witnessed (see middle photo). What is interesting is that we also see (bottom right) a wave coming from the NW, which passes over the #radar centre for the Calgary (#Strathmore) radar site at the same time (8:00 pm).
Low pressure zone comes near #Edmonton down into active Doppler regions, goes south (near #Montana / S.#Dakota) then north again, then straight east into #Manitoba... This counter clockwise rotating system is what brought all that rain / moisture and heavy #clouds, sweeping south west into #Calgary from the north yesterday
What is interesting is how this moisture convergence, which can also be seen on surface analysis maps, is well-connected all the way down to #Texas -- precisely where most of the petroleum refineries and massive power plants are located, emitting enormous amounts of smokestacks and aerosols!
All this moisture being thwarted from Mexico into the States, bringing high yield to Monsantos crops and the agriculture industry. While some areas are left dry and drought-stricken, others are left to flood from the mass amounts of moisture.
Unbelievable ... Everyone remember that low pressure system that came in from West #Pacific towards #Spokane, WA... It went south towards Boise, Idaho #NEXRAD tower, then decided to steer north in the opposite direction towards Great Falls, #Montana NEXRAD station.
Now check this -- the counter clockwise rotating system is now exactly over #Schuler, AB (#MedicineHat) NEXRAD tower! It is dead on over the Doppler site, bringing more moisture into SW #Alberta now.
You can see the Doppler-connected moisture entering into #Canada through the #States, reaching as far down as #Mexico.
A #tornado touched down in #Essa township (SW of Barrie), #Ontario yesterday at 5.30 pm, damaging a hundred homes. During this time, a band of moisture could be seen passing through the centre of the King City NEXRAD radar circumference. The tornado touched down less than 60 km away from the NEXRAD tower.
Southern #Alberta (Medicine Hat, etc) and SW #Saskatchewan receiving tons of moisture and cloud plumes originating from the States. We can also see the tropospheric river bringing in moisture from the coast, going through active NEXRAD regions
A low pressure system came rolling in from the West coast towards the Spokane NEXRAD tower and then to Boise, ID NEXRAD tower. This counterclockwise Rotating system will be bringing lots of moisture and powerplant aerosols into Alberta BC and Saskatchewan from the US. Just like last year environment Canada and the weather network are downplaying the amount of rain expected with estimates of 1 to 3 mm and 5 to 10 mm, but will it be much more? Where else will all this moisture and powerplant aerosols end up, which are coming from the states heading towards our provinces?
Sometimes a satellite picture can say a thousand words... Note the massive amounts of moisture and #aerosol #pollution created by coal (and natural gas) #power plants.
Coal fired power is the most polluting way to generate electricty, and burning coal in Montana is by far the largest source of industrial air pollution. Coal is full of hazardous substances that, when burned, contaminate the air, the land, and the water. Other sources of electricity, including water, wind, and solar, do not have these environmental concerns.
May 13/14 - #Environment #Canada missing ten hours of #satellite #infrared data. For N.#America and Western Canada, the frames jump from 1:00 to 11:00 UTC. Those times are roughly 7:00 pm (May 12) to 5:00 am (May 13) MST. #EnvironmentCanada
