Ahead of next week’s San Diego Comic-Con, St. Louis-based publisher Lion Forge Comics has announced a new partnership with Know Yourself, the public benefit corporation dedicated to self-literacy in early education, launching with a new series from the publisher’s Carcal imprint, Debian Perl: Digital Detective.
Debian Perl is a five-book series aimed at helping middle readers build practical knowledge of coding, algorithms, algebra and logical problem solving; the series will follow Debian and her friend Digits as they attempt to repair a century-old robot and discover why he reprogrammed in the first place.
The series is being developed by Lion Forge and Know Yourself, along with writers Mel Hilario, Lauren Davis and artist Katie Longua.

“Know Yourself does amazing work creating content that is really fun and also really educational,” Lion Forge editor-in-chief Andrea Colvin said in a statement. “They are the perfect partner for Lion Forge in crafting exciting graphic novels that also teach concepts of coding and computer science to kids.”
Tim Howes, CEO of Know Yourself, added that his organization “was founded on the belief that character and story are essential to helping kids and teens learn about themselves and the world around them. We could not be prouder to have Debian Perl and her friends meet the world and start helping readers on this journey. And we could not be more excited to be working with Lion Forge, the world’s most innovative comic book publisher, whose philosophy of cultural diversity and comic books for all we wholeheartedly share.”
The first volume in the series will be released in Summer 2019.
Debian Perl is just one of Lion Forge’s key early 2019 releases, with three additional titles to be spotlighted during this period:

The Wizerd by Michael Sweater and Rachel Dukes
