Nigel-16, funeral costs

Donation protected
After months of fighting, and three brain surgeries, Nigel lost his battle with brain cancer Thursday night. He passed away surrounded by family and loved ones. We want to thank everyone who has supported Nigel throughout this tough journey. The money raised has helped us keep Nigel comfortable and happy during these last few months of his life and allowed us to make special memories we will never forget. Unfortunately, we now have to think about funeral arraignments and how will be celebrate the beautiful 16 years Nigel blessed us with his life. Any little bit will help as we plan our final goodbyes. Thank you again for the love, support and blessing everyone has given. Love you all!

Two days after hundreds of people came together to support Nigel and his goal of starting new therapy after a recent stroke, he was rushed to Rady’s Children’s Hospital for an MRI. They found a tumor in his brain that had doubled in only two weeks since his last check. After taking a biopsy, Nigel stopped breathing and was rushed into emergency brain surgery where they were able to remove part of the tumor that was confirmed to be Medulloblastoma, the same diagnosis he received at age seven.

Nigel’s doctors are hard at work developing a game plan to attack this new cancer head on.
Hi everyone, it’s Casey Torres, Nigel’s stepmom. I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support. Nigel’s dad Tim and I split our time between Big Bear and Temecula and have been trying to spend as much time as possible with Nigel in ICU at Rady’s Children’s Hospital in San Diego. Along with Nigel’s mother, we have all had to take time away from work, and pay for travel to drive back and forth and stay in San Diego when we can.
The funds we receive will help ease the financial burden while we stay together as a family and try to make Nigel as comfortable and happy as possible during his time at the hospital. There are sure to be additional expenses related to his recovery and having the funds available is one less challenge we have to overcome.
We know Nigel has been through a lot in his life but there’s no doubt he’s a fighter and Tougher Than the Rest.

Please help support Nigel and his family through cancer treatment and recovery so he can get back the quality of life he deserves.
Nigel's History
After brain cancer interrupted the vibrant life of six-year-old competitive skier Nigel Holland, him and his family fought to stay strong through brain surgery, chemotherapy and the reality that his dreams of competitive skiing would have to be put on hold. Through physical therapy and determination, Nigel learned to walk again at age seven and was pronounced cancer-free in 2008. The Big Bear High School-er would eventually learn to ski again, enjoy hiking, riding bikes and other everyday teenager activities.

Three months ago Nigel was planning to celebrate being 10 years cancer free when he suffered a devastating stroke leading to bleeding on the brain from lesions caused by previous radiation therapy. The stroke left him without feeling in his right arm and leg.  He spent 30 days in recovery at Loma Linda hospital to stabilize the bleeding and begin physical therapy to learn how to walk again, for the third time in his life.

Our wish for Nigel is to get access to the best physical therapy possible in order for him to have a better quality of life and maybe even one day get back on the mountain.
