Zimbabwe fundraiser!

After returning from Zimbabwe I feel like I have to do something to help the young people we had the pleasure to meet and work with. There is a huge number of homeless young people and children who are suffering. With 95% unemployment rate in Zimbabwe even if they wanted to work it is next to impossible for them.

Antelope park do great work with the local drop in centre for the homeless people of Gweru where they can come once a day and are provided with a meal. Volunteers from antelope park go several times a week and help out with the cooking and also interacting with the people and just listening to their stories.
During my stay I met a 22 year old boy named Tawanda. He sat alone away from everyone so I went to sit and talk with him. His story broke my heart and from there I promised him I would help him before I left.
He had been staying with "friends" who beat and stole from him so had been out on the streets since leaving them. Unfortunately his parents were no longer alive and his aunt and uncle could not afford to look after him.
With the help from the staff in Antelope park I have been able to help Tawanda by sponsoring him. I told them I wanted to pay for his rent etc until he gets back up on his feet and help out in anyway possible.
I'm so happy to say he's now being looked after by a lovely lady who he will stay with until we organise for him to get his birth certificate and passport so he can travel to South Africa where he plans to try get work.

Right now while I know Tawanda is safe I know that all the rest of the boys we met are still out on the streets. If we can raise any funds that could go directly into helping these guys it could change their lives!

We don't realise how hard it is for these people until we are looking them in the eyes and witnessing first hand the pain and struggle they are facing.

If we can altogether raise any money it will be of huge benefit to this drop in centre.

I will go back and hopefully the next time Tawanda will be in a much better situation.

Mary.
