My name is Chris Colwell. I am a C5-C6 Quadriplegic. I have been paralyzed from the chest down since 2003 due to a skydiving accident. It was difficult in the beginning, but with the help of others I would eventually find my way.
In 2007 I started posting videos about my life on YouTube. It was then I realised I could still do some good in life.
This is the link to my YouTube page.

After a few years of this I felt I needed to reach more people.
In 2010 I left Deland Florida and made a bold move towards the unknown. That place was Dubai.
On the 5th day there, I was offered a job at Skydive Dubai. I said YES.
On the 6th day I was rushed to the emergency room.
On the 7th day It was surgery or die.
The next two and a half months would be lived in the hospital in Dubai recovering from bowel obstruction surgery.
This was the beginning of  a 6 year stay in Dubai.

In Dubai I had a job, an apartment, a van, and a live-in caregiver.

3 months ago my job at Skydive Dubai was terminated.
I am now back in the U.S. staying with my great friend Doug Shippee. He is also a quadriplegic paralyzed from the chest down.
There is a home for sale directly across the street from his house which is the one in the picture above. The asking price is $85,000 dollars.
The remaining $10,000 would be used for making modifications to the home. Things like putting ramps at door entrances, widening all doorways, removing the shower stall and replacing it with a roll-in shower, removing all floor cabinets in the kitchen and replacing them with only countertops, an accessible sink and stove, tile flooring , and finally putting ceiling lifts where necessary.
All modifications and equipment are NOT Universal. I will NOT be able to use any of it in another home at a later date. This would become my permanent residence.

This home is in an ideal location for me. First it is directly across the street from a great friend who I will be visiting most often anyway. There is a Walgreens and a small market a few blocks away. The grocery store is two and a half miles away and I can ride there in approximately 20 minutes on my wheelchair.
I am applying for Votran gold which will make it possible for me to travel most other places cheaply and safely. It is a service mainly for people with disabilities.

Why not get another apartment?

If I was to get an apartment and modify it in order to make it handicap accessible everything that has been done will be money lost if I have to leave the apartment for any reason.

To have my own home would mean to have the privacy, motivation, and the freedom to be creative again.

My life could not happen without the continuos help of others. For this I am forever in debt. Gratitude is the overwhelming emotion i cannot be without.

Thank you to Everyone and anyone who is able to donate. I will pay it forward :)
