Fund for Family Expenses

Donation protected
We have received an outpouring of love, support, and also requests for a way to contribute.

In the early morning of February 1st, Rebecca Johnson was tragically shot multiple times in the face and neck by her stepfather (who was shot and killed by police) while checking on her mother, Jennifer Young, who in the days prior was also shot and killed by her husband. Rebecca, “Becca”, is a fighter and such a strong woman, she is currently recovering in the ICU at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

This is a GoFundMe to help with costs for the family associated with Jennifer’s final expenses, help with Becca’s medical bills and any family expenses that are incurred unforeseen. We aren’t asking for any specific amount, the website asks to set a goal.

*Edit: I wanted to post a couple updates, first a post from Katie’s Facebook we wanted and felt appropriate to share here. You can follow Katie’s Facebook for public updates from the family.

Becca’s feeding tube is out and she is feeling great. She is on track to be discharged tomorrow and the plan is for her to come back and stay with Will Broyles and I in Dallas for some time. I cannot thank everyone enough for the generous donations, calls, texts, visits, etc. You all mean the world to our family.

I am absolutely heartbroken over the silent pain my mom must have been going through. I have been hearing a lot of people say that she and bill seemed so happy. Well, I have found that Facebook posts don’t always convey the truth. There was a reason my family didn’t like that man. There was a reason I never allowed my children to go over to their house without me. I knew how badly she envisioned being the grandma that always had her grand babies over at her house and I know it hurt her, but this goes to show to trust your instincts about people. Just because there wasn’t any evidence of physical violence doesn’t mean that verbal abuse isn’t just as serious.
I hate that my mom was a victim of such senseless actions. I hope her death may at least save someone else going through a similar situation. Get out before it’s too late and don’t ever let anyone downplay your emotions when you feel something isn’t right.

I also wanted to provide some additional information in case it isn’t clear who I am to be in line with GoFundMe’s policy of transparency from the creator of the fund. I’m Will Broyles and I’m Jennifer’s son-in-law, Becca’s brother-in-law, and Katie’s husband. We live in Plano, TX and as our update shares, Becca will be coming to live with us for the time being until she has recovered more when she is actually discharged from the hospital. We will be withdrawing the money and using it for Jennifer’s cremation and for her funeral costs, currently the plan is for multiple services TBD.

It will also be used for any medical bills for Becca which do not end up getting written off as she is currently without health insurance. Additionally it will also be used for living expenses that come up for her while she is out of work recovering. She will need to have bills covered, new phone as police are in possession of her old, bed, and other common bills and items one needs. This is covering a wide umbrella of unexpected and uncovered costs for the family and we are truly grateful.

We all are completely blown away by the love and generosity in this difficult time by everyone. Sometimes you can get in the habit of living day to day and you forget how many people are out there that care and are ready to help in times of need. The visits, calls, texts, messages, and prayers are heard and have truly touched our hearts and helped make this traumatic time, not easier but feel more of a feeling of shared support. Thank you all.
