Dark Park Improvements

Donation protected
Shortly after Darkside Snowboards opened in its new Killington  location in 2006, the Dark Park was born. A mini ramp was transplanted from a long time customer's residence to the back of the shop and snowboard features started to materialize. Fast forward to today and the Dark Park is still going strong. Both the ramp and snowboard hill have lights, and the snowboard features have multiplied.

Three summers ago lights were installed on the hill and light up the park every night during the winter months. The Dark Park plays host to a few grassroots events each winter, and there are riders using the park every night that conditions permit.

Two summers ago the decking was replaced on the mini ramp. Stairs and railings were added to the ramp for easier access. The mini ramp is one of few places to skate in town and we offer a youth skateboarding camp two weeks every summer.

This summer, we hope to raise enough money to make significant improvements to the park. The Dark Park has always been free to the public, and many have taken advantage of the opportunity to skate or snowboard in our backyard. Now is the time to give back!

The mini ramp is fully exposed to the elements year round and has taken a beating over the years. Our plan is to give the mini ramp a facelift, replacing the original skatelite with some fresh sheets. We anticipate some minor rotting of the plywood underneath, which may require some replacing. The old skatelite will be used to finish off the decking and build some smaller quarter pipes and flatground features for the parking lot out front. The ramp will also receive a fresh coat of paint and new lighting.

Some of the snowboard park features will only require light maintenance to remove rust to keep them sliding. Others need a complete makeover which will require welding, painting and skirting. We also plan to replace current lighting with LEDs and expand further into the woods for better coverage. The entire park will be cleaned of fallen trees, rocks and small saplings to open up more lines.

Help us keep the park safe, looking clean and of course FREE to ride in the future by donating today. As always, a little bit goes a long way so toss what you can into the hat. We will be organizing work days for all aspects of improvement, so if you would like to donate labor, technical skills(welding, electrical, carpentry) or materials please contact us directly.
