God broke the mold when He made Leonore... and now we all need to fight to keep her!
A beautiful soul, a selfless heart, a loving wife, sister, daughter, and friend - a true #BossGirl fighting for her life.
In 2015 she was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. Last year they began to cause severe pain and she was sent to the ER. Following that visit to the ER, she consulted with her surgeon about having the fibroids removed. After 4 months of Lupron treatments to shrink the uterine fibroids causing her so much pain and discomfort, she went under the knife to remove the fibroids. Multiple pathology reports, CT scans, blood tests, biopsies, consults, and second opinions later she was handed a diagnosis: Stage 4 Leiomyosarcoma, a very rare and aggressive form of cancer which had metastasized from the muscle lining in the uterine wall to the lungs and right femur bone. The prognosis was grim and doctors say that surgery and radiation won't help now that it's spread, and chemo may buy time, but not much. The doctors also say that the 5 year survival rate is in the single digits and due to the aggressive nature of this cancer, she may not make it to 2018. However, regardless of what she's been told, Leonore and Brian, along with her family, have decided to FIGHT.
In true form, Leonore turned confidently to her family and said "Those statistics have nothing to do with me." Brian added, "No one gets to write Lee's story except her," and we all agree. Leonore and her superhero husband Brian have done loads of research and have elected to proceed with a comprehensive treatment to achieve full body healing.
The treatment is incredibly intensive and everyone is confident that she will beat this, but she and Brian will need our support. There is strength in numbers, and with God's grace and mercy we'll be able to help our beautiful Lee live to celebrate many, many more birthdays with us.
Full immersion in her therapy, including advance treatment protocols, is approximately $32,000 for one month. This includes a 4 week stay at the treatment clinic as well as accommodations and meals for both the patient and their companion. Brian will be accompanying her and will also receive caregiver training during their stay. Once in-patient treatment is complete, they will return home to continue the path to healing. The recommended timeframe for this therapy for patients with advance stages of cancer is 18-24 months. Brian will be caring for her around the clock with the help of their immediate family members. Future visits to the treatment clinic will depend on her response to the initial treatments. Our goal today is to help Leonore get started with those treatments and begin the journey of healing as soon as possible.
Since Leonore is going to need Brian's around the clock care, especially in the first year of this battle, their family and friends have encouraged both of them to take time off work to be completely focused on the rigorous schedule of Leonore's daily therapy. The funds we raise will go primarily toward Leonore's therapy and partly toward their basic living expenses during this time.
Leonore has touched our hearts, our homes and our lives in so many ways - giving is the least we can do. Any amount helps, and prayers (lots and lots of prayers) are welcome. So please, look deep and give whatever you can to help fund Lee's road to recovery.
