Luna's Emergency Leg Amputation

Urgent help needed for Luna !

On Sunday 9/17 I rescued Luna from a home  was denied vet care for a critical injury. Her previous owner said she was bit by a relatives dog two weeks ago and they tried to wrap the injury. I took her to urgent care on Monday 9/18. The vet confirmed septic arthritis of right hock and fractured calcaneous. The vet said if she does not get her leg amputated she will not survive because shes septic. PLEASE SHARE THIS ON FACEBOOK AND TWITTER!!

Luna and her sister, Sol, story:

9/16 I received a message from a friend who needed to get rid of her small children's' rabbits because her relatives dogs terrorized them. I was told that one rabbit got bit by a dog and needed to go to the vet. I said of course! I was told I would be taking both rabbits and their cage. She said to let her clean the cage and I could come. I gathered a friend and waited for several hours for the "ok" to come over.

9/17 She changed her mind and I picked up the uninjured rabbit while the owner and children were not home. The owner wasn't sure what to do with the injured rabbit and her family told her that they would eat it. I begged her to give me the rabbit and had an appointment made for the rabbit.

9/18 Luna had an appointment with the vet to assess the injury and he said she is septic and her ankle is broken and severed in a spot. Luna was mauled by the dog and not bit. She is scheduled for surgery on 9/25. The vet prescribed her antibiotics and pain medication until surgery.

9/25 9:00 am Luna is currently at the vet! I didn't realize I had to come up with half of the total in order for them to proceed. I scrounged it together thanks to the help with CareCredit! Luna is set for surgery! She will stay at the hospital for a couple days post-op. The surgery estimate is $1,763 plus the x-ray cost of $450. Care credit allowed me to take $500 out in the form of a credit card to pay for it.

9/25 9 pm LUNA IS OUT OF SURGERY!! The surgery was a success and she is resting in the overnight exotics area. We won't see her for a couple days while she recovers. My son wants to see the bone but I assured him he probably won't. Our fantastic vet, Dr. Johnson will call in the morning with how she's doing. I am So thankful for all of your support. She wouldn't be alive without you.

9/26 I got the call that Luna is doing great and she can go home today! This also means I have to pay her full bill before I can get her. I am currently at home draining my saving and begging my mom to help with the rest. We need donations more than ever. Please share this!!

9/26 2 pm I have drained my savings and begged my mom to help pay the hospital. They need the full bill paid before she can come home! She is in pain and I will have to be taught to give her injections for a couple days. I'll learn when I pick her up and I'll let you all know!

9/26 4pm: LUNA GOES HOME!!! The hospital was gracious enough to update the bill after we leave so we didn't have to pay as much today. That was a blessing. I just uploaded a picture of her with the Cone Of Shame. Most rabbits don't need a cone but Luna was just begging. She has recovered wonderfully. She had the amputation performed at mid-femur under anesthesia. We have our wonderful senior vet Emily Furst that we would also love to thank. We all went through post-op care and Luna will get mushy babypoop looking food for a week and bunny morphine for a few days.

9/28: Luna is doing great! She doesn't really like the critical care and she'd rather eat regular hay instead. She loves to cuddle with an ice pack. So far, the total medical bill is $1500 and she needs to go back in a few weeks. We are almost halfway there! Please keep sharing. You may not be able to donate someone you know will!! Even $10 Is a phenomenal donation.

10/1 Luna is doing well and is hopping around again. She isn't falling over anymore  which is fantastic. She really loves to cuddle and tries to cuddle with the cat. He isn't too sure yet. I cannot believe we are at 60% of the total campaign! I want to thank each of you who shared and donated!

My name is Danni and I have been rescuing animals for as long as I can remember. My mom always had a soft spot for injured, sick, and elderly animals. I remember growing up, a friend of my dad's dumped a puppy and an elderly dog with cancer. We found a wonderful home for the energetic puppy and a warm and loving home until the elderly dog had to be put down. When I got this message, I knew in my heart that Luna needed my help and this was the right thing to do. I am a single mother to an amazing 5 year old son and a senior at CSU.
