One Piece Kaizoku

One Piece Kaizoku

I really enjoy drawing in retro/vintage styles, i must admit i haven’t studied their styles enough for me to replicate authentically, but i do have a gander at it when the opportunity arises.

This One Piece artwork that i could never agree on a title for whether it was Kaizoku, Luffy vs Kaido, Pirate King, or simply Monkey D. Luffy, was quite the ride, i first started by researching old japanese art and paintings, going deep into the Ukiyo-e art style and other Edo Period drawings and eventually deciding to have Hokusai as the base of my inspiration for this artwork, i decided to take a direct scene from the One Piece Manga where they started sailing to Onigashima in the Wano Country Arc and wanted throw in a bunch of things at it, as i write this, the fight between Luffy & Kaido has yet to be concluded and drawing both of them fighting with the great wave off kanagawa as part of the artwork was just a blast, i could not think of a better way to draw a vintage One Piece artwork, the roaring seas, the Kaido dragon transformation, Monkey D. Luffy in gear 4th, Onigashima in the background, it all just came together well, i even made sure to draw Kaido the same way they used to depict dragons in the Edo Period, while still resembling how he looks in the One Piece Manga.

I did feel like i was ripping off Hokusai’s work to a degree, but it’s more of a tribute rather than me simply copying his works, even in the One Piece manga Eiichiro Oda had made quite a few tributes to old japanese paintings and Hokusai himself.

Gengar in Lavender Town

Gengar in Lavender Town

Also titled “Ghosts of Lavender Town”. I have always loved Pokemon but i never made any Pokemon fan art, so i decided to create a Pokemon poster or print and have it revolving around my favorite Pokemon type (ghost type) and my boy Gengar (that smile, that damn smile), creating a composition around Lavender Town, the Gengar Pokemon evolution from Ghastly, Haunter to Gengar, and throwing some ghost Pokemon to fill some space felt like a cool idea, i have to admit though, the color palette could have been better, matter of fact i did a 5 color version for screen printing and it turned out much better.

I hope i did my boy Gengar proud, i still have other Pokemon art ideas, but my motivation isn’t huge because they are almost impossible to license.

The Mandalorian Art Deco

The Mandalorian Art Deco

I personally was never a fan of Star Wars, sue me, was never my cup of tea, however, i did watch The Mandalorian and i kind of fell in love with the show, the bounty hunter Mando, the child Grogu, the baby yoda memes, i had to create some Mandalorian art, but i was never one to follow trends, if anything they often made me lose interest.

So, a few weeks after watching the second season of The Mandalorian an art challenge pops up with the Art Deco theme, and i get this idea, the mandalorian + Art Deco = the manDECOrian, ingenius? maybe i don’t know, so i took inspiration from the cover art of The Great Gatsby novel and created this Mandalorian poster design, threw in the iconic Mando helmet, the child/baby yoda (Grogu?) in his cute floating pod and some imperial TIE/Line starfighters, and oh yes, a random Death Star in the background.

I made many baby yoda artworks/memes inspired by The Mandalorian, but this is the only art worth showing. A Mandalorian poster design i am proud of.

Rick & Morty - Mortys

Rick & Morty - Mortys

An illustration based on the Tales from the Citadel episode, featuring Morty Town and a number of Mortys from different dimensions and episodes, i believe i finished this artwork during Rick & Morty Season 4 as you can see the Morty from Rattlestar Ricklactica and Wasp Morty. I truly enjoyed drawing the background which was the citadel of Ricks even though it was not intentional as the artwork wasn’t supposed to contain a background to begin with.

Evil Morty and Cop Morty were just some fan favorite additions, i usually tend to be more niche in my drawings.

The Fake Vat of Acid Poster

The Fake Vat of Acid Poster

The poster design i made that was inspired by the Emmy winning episode the Vat of Acid from Rick & Morty season 4, i loved everything in the episode, especially the moment where Rick says “oh there were consequences” and the music suddenly becomes serious, the entire direction of it was marvelous.

The composition for this artwork was inspired by a portal gun poster design made by Ian Glaubinger, i liked the simplicity of his work, the minimalism behind it, so i tried to create something similar and i was glad with the end result.

Dota 2 Arcana

Dota 2 Arcana

One of the biggest mysteries of my existence was how do i have 2-3 thousand hours played in Dota 2, but i never made any artwork or Fan Art for the game, maybe because the game is extremely toxic so i don’t have much fond memories of it, maybe it’s a love hate relationship, but alas here we have it, a Dota 2 artwork i created after the release of the battlepass for the international 10.

I decided to make a Dota 2 artwork revolving around the Arcanas and Personas in the game, while there weren’t many of them at the making of this artwork a few were just introduced and they keep making them every year so why not, i started with the Queen of Pain arcana that was just released that year and added some fan favorites like the Windranger arcana and Pudge persona, the background for this artwork while not clearly visible is Terrorblade gazing at his own twisted reflection in Foulfell, the Anti-Mage and Invoker personas were basically added for meme purposes.

Now the decision not to include any facial features was because well, i tried with and without, it looked better without, i was also working on a very small digital canvas even though i don’t recall why.

Water Lilies

Water Lilies

Most of my motivation and inspiration arises from Video Games and TV Shows or Movies, however every once in a while i like to use photographs to create some original work or just to practice using some tools or to try out a different style.

I used a photograph of a woman wearing a dress floating in water to create this, i was testing out creating illustrations without the use of outlines, which isn’t something i am used to, i added some water lilies and Koi fish to the composition as i wanted to portray a lady floating on the surface of a Koi pond, i was attempting to show a somber feeling, a sort of surrealism while maintaining minimalism.

Rick Sanchez Personal Space

Rick Sanchez Personal Space

A design i made inspired by the old man and the seat episode from Rick & Morty season 4, i just loved the scene depicted in it, the relaxation, the quietness, just the entire mood of it, the personal space while referring to his “private pooping” place also refers to the interdimensional cable episode of Rick & Morty

Studio Ghibli Adventures

Studio Ghibli Adventures

Mainly inspired by the train scene from Spirited Away, i wanted to create a Studio Ghibli artwork with a number of characters that i liked in the Ghibli universe, a sort of a mashup of my favorite characters in a minimalistic way, so i had drawn the train, cut it down a notch because i didn’t want the artwork to be 4000 pixels wide and only 1000 pixels high and added in some shenanigans, the line art was extremely minimal and even the size of the artwork wasn’t that big, few creative decisions i had to contemplate was whether to draw a reflection or not, and whether to keep the plant/flower pattern or remove it as it logically doesn’t make sense for a moving train, but anyways this was the end result for this piece that i title “Ghibli Adventure”.

Featured in this artwork are No Face, Chihiro Ogino & Haku from Spirited Away, Satsuki Kusakabe & Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke from, well … Princess Mononoke, Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service, Sophie Hatter & Turnip Head from Howl's Moving Castle (i wanted to fit in Howl in bird form but couldn’t find a place for him), Arriety from The Secret World of Arrietty, Sheeta from Castle in the Sky and last but not least Princess Kaguya from The Tale of the Princess Kaguya and Porco Rosso flying on his famous plane. I could have just kept going to be frank as i love all of Studio Ghibli’s movies, their attention to detail and the Ghibli art style in itself, but i had to remind myself i am aiming for minimalism and a quick project.

Castlevania and Dracula's Castle

Castlevania and Dracula's Castle

Titled at one point as Castles und Vampires as a joke (i say at one point but matter of fact it still is somewhere), this Castlevania fan art was something i created after watching the Netflix show inspired by the classic Castlevania platformer from the 80s, maybe the 90s, there were many additions to the game series anyhow, the Castlevania symphony of the night remains the fan favorite however, and for good reasons, it’s an amazing game.

Anyways, i am getting side tracked here, i wasn’t much of a Castlevania fan even though i love platformers and dark/gloomy games in general, but after watching the Netflix show i started getting deep into the genre and read up on how it all started, the true legacy behind the IP, what inspired it, what games were inspired by it, and just a lot of lore really.

After reading up on it so much, watching the show a couple of times, seeing the old games, the lore, the art, i just had to create something as sort of a tribute, and because i did not want to reinvent the wheel, i just used the art style of the show for the characters instead of driving inspiration from old concept art of the games. The bats swarming was something i took from the intro of the show, and the rest was just random composition of the Castlevania characters and Dracula’s Castle.

HONK Poster

HONK Poster

The goose, that damn goose, it basically started as a meme, i wanted to create some fan art for the Untitled Goose Game, i loved the minimal art style of the game and the ridiculousness of it, not to mention the amount of memes that it created, so i wanted to create some “meme art” if you would like to call it, i already noticed a bunch of artists have done a lot of fan art for the untitled goose game, and a few even did the same as me with using the Obama Hope poster style, however, none of them felt just right, not to take anything away from them as art is subjective, i just felt like it needed something “more” so i tried my hand at the style and ended up with this, honestly, considering this was my first attempt at the infamous style created by Shepard Fairey, i got lost a little, even ended up with 3 versions of this poster, i do like how it turned up however.

So here we are, i have a HONK poster featuring a classy goose as part of my portfolio, that’s just so me, i am driven most of the time by memes and ridiculous ideas, and the untitled goose game memes were something else.

20 Minutes Adventure

20 Minutes Adventure

One of the most famous Rick & Morty memes, the 20 minutes adventure, in this illustration i was trying out a retro vibe, testing out minimalism and still being lame by adding fan favorite characters like mr.meeseeks, say what you will, i don’t like trendy things.

First draft of this Rick & Morty fan art had “let’s go on adventure” written instead of this, but it didn’t feel like something that would be said in the show, too cheerful, so i opted for this instead. Also, the reason Mr.Meeseeks is smiling is because existence is pain and he should be happy to die, it’s the little things.

A Night in Night City

A Night in Night City

One of my very few original artworks, if we can even call them that as most of my art is fan art and even when not are heavily inspired, for this piece, i want to create some cyberpunk art, i love the genre, watched an hour long documentary on how it was formed, and have now a bunch of books on my reading list like Neuromancer and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

So, like anything when it comes to me creating art, i don’t just scrabble anything on a sketchbook, it just doesn’t work with me, i like to be authentic when doing or creating something, so proper research needed to be done, and i had to drive inspiration from “something” as the genre in itself was, well, also based on something after all, like the books i just mentioned, so it began the composition time, had to ask myself, what is cyberpunk? what is punk really? what material or resources can i drive from that will give me an authentic look at the genre, for that question i was left with a number of media, Cyberpunk 2077, Akira, Bladerunner, Ghost in the Shell, and a bunch of old cyberpunk concept art by the likes of Syd Mead. Ruiner also made the cut, but that inspiration you would probably notice more in the full version of this artwork.

After gathering all the source material i can take inspiration from i started the composition, the dimly lit street was an idea i got from a pre-release screenshot of Cyberpunk 2077, the Cyberpunk car design was inspired by an Arasaka vehicle also from Cyberpunk 2077, the bike is a custom-made BMW R9T motorcycle rebuilt by the Zillers Garage at a Moscow Motorcycle Show, the Cyberpunk character/solo draws inspiration from the maelstrom gang from cyberpunk 2077 and how heavily modified by cybernetics they are.

There are a few Akira, Cyberpunk 2077, and Ghost in the Shell easter eggs i added as stickers and drawings on the bike, to be frank i wanted to do even more, but i wanted the cyberpunk solo to be the centerpiece of this artwork, and have a rather dark background to accentuates the cyberpunk bike and the character. Shortcoming do exist and i must admit them though, centering wasn’t that perfect, i should have came up with my own futuristic ideas, and the lightning is sub par, but for my first cyberpunk artwork, i say i shouldn’t be too harsh on myself, anyways i hope you liked it, go check out the full version for the crazy that is my imagination.

Pokemon Surfing Pikachu

Pokemon Surfing Pikachu

This is straight forward to be honest, practically a rip off, i really liked the surfing Pikachu Pokemon card from the TCG (i still haven’t pulled it unfortunately) and wanted to create a bigger artwork with it while maintaining the original art style, the wave shape was made to somewhat resemble the great wave off Kanagawa, matter of fact on another Pokemon artwork that i made, titled Surfing Gengar, i drew my own version of both Gengar and the great wave off Kanagawa to create a similar artwork, i don’t know, maybe a part of me felt bad about my lack of originality in creating this Surfing Pikachu art and decided to make a Surfing Gengar Pokemon fan art, not to mention, it is a very cute artwork.
