A Message from the Michaels Family
August 27, 2017

On August 18, 2017, our 25 year old son/brother/boyfriend, Tommy Michaels, was involved in a mountain biking accident in Portland, Oregon.  He suffered a spinal cord injury and was initially paralyzed from the chest down.  Over the next two days he had two surgeries on his neck to stabilize it, and allow his spinal cord to heal.  The sensation in his arms and legs has been slowly improving, but his motor control is very limited.  When Tommy is released from the hospital he will enter an inpatient rehabilitation center for 4-8 weeks.  After inpatient therapy, he is expected to receive outpatient therapy for up to a year, or more.  Tommy recognizes the seriousness of his injury and the uphill challenges he faces, but he remains positive and has maintained his sense of humor.  Tommy has always been strong-willed and this will work to his advantage as he strives to achieve a full recovery.  We believe in the power of prayers, and prayers for Tommy would be greatly appreciated!  Tommy would like to be in his hometown of Cleveland for rehabilitation to be near family.  Through the very kind and generous donations of dear friends, his medical flight has been arranged through the organization Grace on Wings,  www.graceonwings.org , and we are hoping to transport him home this week.

Last November, Tommy and Hilary (his girlfriend) climbed to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro.  With the love and prayers of others, and Tommy's drive and perseverance, we are all confident he will get to the top of this peak!

Love, Bob & Patty (Sheetz) Michaels, Laura and Ryan Michaels, & Hilary Breuner

How You Can Help!
Fortunately, Tommy has health insurance through Patty's plan, but many medical expenses incurred in his rehabilitation, and needed modifications to his living environment, will not be covered.  Our goal is to raise $50,000 to assist with these expenses.  The Michaels family is humbled by the outpouring of everyone's loving prayers and support.  Thank you for giving prayerful consideration as to how you can assist us in this goal.

In the event money raised is over and above his expenses, the remaining money will be donated to spinal cord research in hopes of helping others in similar situations.

Thank you and God Bless!
