Community Service- On Nov 28, 2013, Thanksgiving Day, Central Maryland Shocker 11th Grader Earl Mitchell, volunteered a few hours of his time to do a good deed at Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center.  He helped restock and organize their food pantry and talked to some of the clients, brightening their day. The Shockers plan on volunteering at Grassroots in the near future.
  • Earl is also a member of Oakland Mills High Schools Varsity basketball team, the Air Force Jr ROTC, and the Alpha Achievers.
Keep up the good work Earl!

~CMS End of Summer 2013 Field Trip~

East Coast Future Stars Tournament, King of Prussia, PA.

The Central Maryland Shockers 6th/7th and 11th Grade Team members traveled via coach bus (Thanks  Borden Transportation!) to King of Prussia, PA to compete in the Future Stars Tournament.  Our teams competed against some of the best from Philadelphia, Chester, PA, Syracuse, NY, and Virginia and  also toured the beautiful campus of Cabrini College.  During our “College Life” tour,  our players were given the “college experience” by Cabrini student Paige Taormina who showed us the various academic opportunities and programs that exist at the school, campus life, and her own personal experiences as a college student and the steps made in high school that made college a possibility.

Cabrini men’s assistant basketball Coach Saleem Brown  also spoke to the young men and women about following the right crowd and avoiding peer pressure, making academics the top priority to be successful, as well as basketball philosophy such as “DEFENSE first .”  Although we would have liked a better win-loss record this weekend, we got the experience of a lifetime---one  that will motivate young men to go above and beyond on AND off the court
.  Thanks again Coach Brown, Paige Taormina, Coach Thurm, Borden Transportation, the Greer Family, and the Sells family for helping us have a memorable trip.

PLAYER Highlights:
11th Grade: Through 3 games, the only consistent offense came from Meghale Ford who averaged 15 ppg with 8 assist and Earl Mitchell III averaged 12 ppg.  Great contributions from the entire team defensively. Rising Freshman Guard Nic Perlin played two grade levels up, and showed tremedous promise as a great high school basketball player.

6th/7th Grade: Through 3 games, Marcus Mitchell averaged 13 ppg.

Stay tuned for our next event.  If you are looking for a team, please register.

Thank you,

Coach Earl Mitchell Jr

SHOCKERS HS VARSITY TEAM REACH T-3 FINALS
12 Aug 2013

The CMS Varsity High School team went to the 1st T-3 High School Summer Basketball League Finals on Monday night.  The Shockers advanced to the Championship game to play against the well-coached Jaguars after defeating a young, talented Bulls team in overtime. The Shockers played an exciting double overtime championship game against the Jaguars, but fell short by 4 pts to a very talented, well-coached team led by Coach Erick Perry.

Pictured from l to r: Hasaan Bey (11th Gr), Aaron Moore,  (10th Gr) Nic Perlin (9th Gr), Meghale Ford (11th Gr), Earl Mitchell III (11th Gr), Calvin Henderson (12th Gr), Jonathan Hughes (10th Gr), Derrick Sollee (11th Gr), and Amidu Jalloh (11th Gr).  Not pictured: Randall Britt (10th Gr), and CJ Brown (9th Gr), Illya Blount (10th Gr), Dyshawne Jarrett (10th Gr), and Richard Samuels (10th Gr).

We are so proud how these young men persevered and battle throughout a tough '13 summer of limited practice time due to player vacation, player camps, and logistical limitations.  Sometimes, heart and determination is all a brand new team needs. Having players that embody those qualities is the key to success.

Thank you to all those who were unable to make the finals. Your contribution during the summer was appreciated.

What is a "Shocker"?

A "Shocker" is a member of our team who sets standards, works to meet personal, athletic, and academic goals, cares for his/her community, is of good character, and strives to do what naysayers, doubters, or "haters" (as our youth refer to them as) may think is impossible.
