I am griot, born of two artists, having grown up 15 minutes West of Chicago. I come from a long line of creators and storytellers, and I’m blessed to have the opportunities that my ancestors could only dream of. I came into this world fighting for my life, alongside my twin brother. My talented older brother raised us as his own, and he stood tall in his truth alongside the light that is my mother, and was my grandmother.
I know all too well the feelings of “not being good enough” or “having the odds stacked against me”. By no statistic should I have made it out of a broken home from a poor and violent community with a Mechanical Engineering degree from MIT, a budding career as a creative professional, and a beautiful wife that shares my passion and vision for life. I continue to fight everyday against shame, self-destruction and systemic pressures that urges me to abort the calling that is on my life. And here I am, a Black man, a citizen of the United States of America, a community leader, an inventor, a prolific being that loves his people and will make life better for them for generations to come.
It’s an honor to share my life and love with Claxton J Everett. He is a testament to power of community, self expression and truthful living.
