Quick Weekend In Boston

My son and I headed up to Boston early Saturday morning for a super quick and fun weekend! The purpose of our trip was to see the Islanders play the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. This little “hockey trip” is a trip I once did with my dad as a kid so it was nice to do the same with my son now too.

While we were only in Boston for one night, we did have all day Saturday and most of Sunday to enjoy ourselves in the city.

What we did:

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, we flew to Boston instead of driving which was a really smart decision. The flight was something like 35 minutes which means we were able to check into our hotel in Copley Place and head over to the other hotel where the Islanders would be after their morning skate all before 11:00 am.

I don’t think the Islanders were expecting my son and I to be waiting for them in their hotel lobby but hey, if one of you players are going to share an Instagram story that clearly shows the places outside of your hotel, we are going to figure out your location.

^That BNV logo drawstring bag is from my son’s Bar Mitzvah! I had them made to hold the sweatshirts we gave away as favors and I have a ton of extras!

We literally saw the entire team, head coach, and media personalities. My son totally scored big time in terms of autographs and talking to the players and I stood there videoing like a fool until hotel security finally discovered us and suggested that we should have stopped the players outside of the hotel, not in the hotel lobby. That’s fine I told him, we got what we needed and would now be on our way.

I saw Sarah!

Saturday afternoon before the game, I was lucky enough to spend a couple of hours with Sarah! We walked around all of the stores in Copley Place and talked/laughed/gossiped the entire time. It’s only fitting that we took a picture outside of the candy shop. I remembered that I LOVED this particular candy shop’s chocolate covered dried pineapple ring the last time I was here so I got myself one on Saturday and it was great.

Do you see how tired I look in this picture? This was a fast trip but a busy one where I didn’t stop for a second. I also find that my eyes get weird after flying, even when it’s a short flight.

It was totally snowing all day and night but when you are in a city, it’s hardly an inconvenience especially when everything in Copley Place is basically attached. You rarely need to go outside if you don’t want to!

The Game.

My son and I headed to the game about an hour before start time. He was in his glory watching warm ups and getting himself in the Islanders Snapchat pictures and videos while I sat like a mom in my seat.

The cool thing was that the guys sitting behind us also flew in for the game and actually grew up in my hometown! Same high school, only they were a bunch of years older than me. Talk about a small world.

Sunday was spent in the hotel gym trying the Peloton (check out yesterday’s post for that recap), walking around, eating and then heading to the airport for a quick flight home.

What We Ate:

After stalking the Islanders Saturday morning, we had lunch at California Pizza Kitchen.

At the game, I went straight for the giant pizza from Sal’s pizza. I recalled this pizza from our last trip to Boston two years ago and I really wanted to try it. It was everything I dreamed it would be!

Sunday morning, instead of having our usual hotel breakfast, we opted to walk down the block to Max Brenner. We hadn’t been to a Max Brenner since our last trip to Boston which is a little unusual for us!

Not my typical breakfast choice but whatever, I went with it. I ordered a vegetable omelette which came with a biscuit and potatoes but neither were anything to write home about.

When at Max Brenner, I must have the chocolate fondue. I didn’t care that it was 10:00 am and really, strawberries and bananas are breakfast foods anyway.

For some reason I thought that our breakfast and chocolate fondue would keep me full all day but then I saw Pinkberry at the airport and suddenly needed a cup.

And then, just like that, we were back to Laguardia Airport and home. The New York/Boston Jet Blue flight is seriously the best!

Have you been to Boston? If so, do you love Copley Place like I do?!

How often do you take quick weekends away and when you do, where do you go? Do you fly or drive?

Random question – what’s for breakfast today?

  1. I went to Boston forever ago when I was a small child. It’s a city I definitely want to go back to now that I’m older. Living in New Jersey, a weekend to Boston sounds like something I need to plan for sure!

At this point in my life, a weekend away typically involves my boyfriend and I flying to Chicago to visit my parents. Which is fun but there’s only so much to do in the same city ya know?

  2. Sounds like a great weekend! You really fit in everything in 2 days. Ive been to Boston a few times but its been several years now. My friend who lived there moved to Minnesota so I’m not sure when I would go back!

  3. I love the memories you are making with your son..,and kind of feel sorry for whomever he marries because how are they going to live up to it . P.S. the dryer sheets in the hockey bag TOTALLY worked. You just settled a 10 year argument in our marriage.

    1. aww you are way too kind. thank you 🙂 — and I’m so glad! we have found it to work really well too and I leave a whole bunch in the bag with this equipment after airing them all out, lined with dryer sheets lol
