Holiday Store opening on Nov. 3

December Arts News

Dear Friends,

In this last month of 2017, and as I enjoy my 5th (and Heights Arts' 16th) Holiday Store, I am reminded of how privileged I am to be a part of an organization formed from such a creative community. You—our poets, writers, visual artists and musicians, art appreciators and supporters—have sustained Heights Arts in its mission, and made it possible for us to hit the million dollar mark in support of local arts initiatives since 2000. We see your support in the number of patrons of our store, standing-room-only concerts in our gallery, and the hundreds of people who show up for our exhibition openings and events. In 2018 we will select our 9th Cleveland Heights Poet Laureate; quite a distinction for Heights Arts and the city of Cleveland Heights, which, until recently was the only city in the state of Ohio to host a Poet Laureate. These long-standing programs are a testament to the strength of our community's commitment to the arts. I thank you for your continued support, and hope you will consider a gift to our annual fund to help us get to the next million.

With warmest greetings and best wishes for the new year,
Rachel Bernstein, Executive Director

Holiday Store 2017

10-4 p.m. on December 24
Closed December 25

Open seven days a week through December 30, our 16th Annual Holiday Store is stocked with new, handmade items from our 100+ participating Northeast Ohio artists on a weekly basis, so all are encouraged to "support local" by shopping early and often! Artists also volunteer their time to help visitors in the store and share information about their craft, so it's the perfect chance to learn more about these wonderful and personal gifts.

We're especially thrilled for the Holiday Store to be featured this year on Fox 8's New Day Cleveland, airing Monday, December 11 at 10 a.m. Our director, Rachel, and Holiday Store artists will also be on Kickin' It With Kenny on December 12. Stay tuned! HOLIDAY STORE ARTISTS

Pamela and Matthew have been represented in exhibitions and galleries throughout the United States and abroad for the past thirty years.

Enter our December Artist of the Month giveaway for one of Pamela's handcrafted mezuzahs with scroll (the winner may pick one of three designs) when you stop in anytime this month. A winner will be drawn on December 30. No purchase necessary

Cleveland Heights Ninth Poet Laureate

Applications open through December 31

In 2005, Heights Arts and the City of Cleveland Heights named its first Poet Laureate to create programs that infuse poetry into community life. Collaborations have included the lively Haiku Death Match held in April, Twitter poetry project (PoetTweet), community workshops, and our ongoing Ekphrastacy series. The service of Christine Howey, our esteemed 8th Poet Laureate, concludes at the end of March, 2018. Interested in being the next Poet Laureate (or know an ideal candidate)? LEARN MORE
