Friends, Family and well-wishers,
This week our family received the devastating news that my niece Rylie, age 3, was diagnosed with kidney cancer. We are currently awaiting the results of a biopsy performed earlier this week, but the doctors believe she has what's called a Wilms tumor.
Wilms tumor is the most common type of kidney cancer in children, however only about 500 new cases are found in the United States each year. Rylie's tumor measures more than 14cm and covers most of her kidney. Doctors plan to treat the cancer with a combination of chemotherapy and surgery.
Rylie loves to play with her little sister, as well as with all of her cousins and loved ones. Some of her favorite things to do are singing, dancing and gymnastics. She also likes to spend time outside looking for birds, butterflies and bugs. She is creative, very smart and her smile lights up a room.
Our family is struggling to understand how someone so small and full of life could be diagnosed with such a terrible disease. We realize Rylie and her family - John, Brittney and Devyn - have a long road ahead of them and want to help in any way we can. For this reason, we ask for your prayers, positive thoughts and monetary donations. No family should have to worry about financial burdens while fighting to save their child's life.
