Ok, ok. Let me explain.

So, I have some explaining to do. I started this blog, got a great head start, and then life happened. Life happened for a long time, and I left you guys hanging. Ouch. That is hurtful, and I sincerely apologize. If it is any consolation, I paid for this domain for the entire time that I didn’t post anything, just to house the 3 posts I did manage it get up before I ran away and hid! So.. you see, I had every intention of coming back! It just took longer than I was thinking is all. I am allowed to get sidetracked, right? For a year? And a half… ? Ok, ok. I won’t do it again!

Now, if you have accepted that apology, and you are still here (I totally appreciate you and I will make it worth your loyalty!) then boy do I have some stuff coming for you! And soon!

I can’t wait to start a new leaf and a new chapter with all of you! So hold on to your horses (chairs, couches, beds. Whatever!) and get ready for some good stuff!

Thank you for sticking around!

And if you are new, welcome to the family and I can’t wait to show you what is coming!

I hope you are all having a beautiful day, and an amazing 2018 so far.

What I Use on My “Everyday” Face.

Today I will show you the magical world of my everyday makeup. Ok, I have to be honest.. I don’t wear makeup everyday per say. Mostly just when I have the extra time, and when I feel like looking extra pretty. Most days I like to let my skin breath, but today you are here to see what I do when I am in the makeup mood. Right? Right. So! Let’s get to it!

I personally do not have incredible talents, nor am I a professional. I do like to play, and I have had some years of experience with the trial and error process. Imagine thick black rimmed eyes and hot pink eye shadow with something of a Kat Von D star design in eyeliner, but much, much rougher. In my defense it looked great with the bright pink locks I was rocking in my teenage years. Also, I loved it and felt incredibly confident in it, and that is the point of makeup is it not? To feel good in it! To experiment and play. Because at the end of the day, you (hopefully) wash it all away to start again the next day.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

For my “everyday”makeup these days I have opted for something much simpler, and certainly much more subtle. I am a very big fan of minimal makeup, and I couldn’t be happier than when my face still looks like my face. Only, you know, more flawless and put together. Because I don’t know about you but dark circles and discoloration just do not look flawless and put together on me.

The very first step I take is to make sure I have done my proper skin care routine, the exact one I went over in my last blog post. If you’re curious about that process make sure to check out that post first. My makeup goes on so much better when my skin is freshly cleaned and my moisturizer has had a good amount of time to sink in and do it’s job. Then, I give my face a spritz of Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray , just for good staying power measure. (Side note: anyone else notice product names can just get ridiculously long? Or is that just me?) Next, it is time to pat my primer into my skin. A wonderful one is the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. They have a wonderful range of primers that do all sorts of wonderful things, I personally prefer the original one. It helps my foundation blend beautifully into the skin and keeps it there all day long. However as we approach the spring and summer months I switch over to the Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer . It again, does a wonderful job of helping my foundation buff into the skin flawlessly, and keeps it in tact all the day long. The special part that makes me love it at this time of year more so than the Smashbox one is that this one adds a glow. That beautiful summer goddess “lit from within” glow. Which is something that just makes me unexplainably happy this time of year in particular. Moving on to address those under eye circles that I just love so much, this NYX Dark Circle Concealer is my holy grail. It has a slight salmon color to it that helps to cancel out the blue tones in my under eye, to make me look like I actually got a full nights rest for once. I certainly cannot complain about that. A tiny bit of this stuff goes a long way, and just make sure you only use it in the areas that you really need it. No need to put it all the way across your under eye, this is more of a color corrector and less of a concealer, no matter what the name implies.

L’Oreal True Match , Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser, & Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer

For actual concealing I move on to applying my foundation. I have a few favorites, but the L’Oreal True Match is one that I always go back to. It leaves my skin with a flawless medium coverage, does not feel heavy on the skin and as a bonus also comes in a wide variety of colors. Plus, it is found in drugstores, so it is relatively inexpensive. Next, I apply my concealer which I personally use two different concealers for. Yes, this is a little high maintenance, but I adore the effect I achieve with this method. Placing the lighter concealer, in my case the Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser in fair, under my eyes in a triangular shape, then swiping a darker concealer on the outer edges of that triangle. The darker concealer I use here is the Urban Decay Lightweight Complete Coverage Concealer .  (Again, with the long names) I have found when I apply my concealer in this way I can still get some of the highlighting and brightening properties, but the darker concealer gives it more of a natural gradient effect. So my under eyes can look bright, but not all out Kim K, which is a bit much for me if we’re being honest with each other.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid , Rimmel London Natural Bronzer ,Wet N’ Wild Blush & Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed

Moving into bringing some life back into the face I go over the high points of my face with the Becca Shimmering Skin Prefector Liquid , cheek bones, cupids bow, chin, and down the center and on the tip of my nose. This highlighter is A-MAZING. I absolutely love how easily it blends out with the tip of my finger, just melting into the skin. It adds to that “lit from within” summer glow I got with my primer in the most perfect way. I cannot recommend this product enough. Next I hit some of the shadows of my face with my Rimmel London Natural Bronzer, I go around the edges of my hairline, onto my temples, a little in the hollows of my cheeks and some along my jawline as well. This is a bronzer I have been using for years, and it has never failed me. I am not sure how it would do for contouring however, because I am not really interested in contouring my own face personally. I think other people look amazing with a strong contour, however I myself have not mastered this skill and I am ok with this fact of life. As far as bronzing the face however, I find that it is not too orange, not glittery, and blends out beautifully to give a beautiful sun kissed appearance. Which many times is enough for me and I don’t even add a blush. When I do decide to add blush, this is a step I play around with. The color changes depending on what I think looks the best that day. One of my favorites is the Wet N’ Wild Color Icon Blusher in “Mellow Wine”, though you must use a light hand because these things can pack some serious pigment. Count yourself warned. I apple this lightly just behind the apples of my cheeks and brush it back towards my ears. This gives me a perfect flush of color to accent my glowing bronzed skin. I then top that liquid highlighter we used earlier with some of the same highlighter but in the pressed form, to really lock it into place and to add a little extra shimmer to the tops of those cheekbones.

Next, I may or may not add some eye shadow. Many days I do not, but even when I do it is subtle and simple. I usually reach for my Stila Trust In Love Giftable Set. It is called a giftable set because it comes with 12 gorgeous eye shadow shades, a mascara and a lipgloss. Personally I did not like the lipgloss as it was too sticky, and I wasn’t too fond of the mascara either. But the shadows, are completely worth it. They are incredibly pigmented, soft and as smooth as butter, just beautiful. I usually grab a little bit of the shade furthest to the left upper row in the picture above. (The shades are not listed on the palette itself)  I then run that through my crease quickly. I next pick up the shade that is 3rd from the left upper row, and place this all over my lid, then I take the shimmery shade 2nd from the left upper row and that goes on the inner 3rd of my eyelid. And voila, done with the eye shadow.

As a bonus I also take the shimmery white shade 2nd from the right on the bottom row and use that as my brow highlight.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz & NYX Tinted Brow Mascara

Speaking of brows, that is usually where my attention goes next. I fill them in using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz , this is a magical little pencil that is holy grail throughout the beauty world. It has a small nib on it that makes it perfect for creating tiny hair like strokes, and comes in a wide range of colors. My color of choice is “Soft Brown”. I then set them into place using my NYX Tinted Brow Mascara. This stuff keeps them solidly in place all day long, and adds a tiny bit more color for a little more coverage. In fact some no makeup days I will add a little tinted brow mascara, just to keep them in place and frame my face a little more.

Some of the finishing touches! I line my tight line with my Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil , this is the perfect liner for the tight line, or the water line. Once this stuff goes on, it’s not going anywhere! Sometimes I follow up by lining my lash line with L’Oreal Infallible Lacquer Liner 24H , this an amazing gel liner that provides a smooth rich line, that dries down quick and stays exactly where you put it without any fading through the day. To complete my eyes I apply my favorite mascara, the Maybelline Rocket Volum Express Mascara gives me tons of volume and does not clump. It is a fantastic drugstore option, and I have gone back to it many times. I finish off by giving my face one more spritz of my Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray, then apply whatever lip color I want to wear that day. Lately I have been lining my lips with the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in “Ultimate Ozone”. This is a wonderful clear lipliner that adds no color but helps lay the perfect base for wearing any liquid lipstick, helping to make things a little more comfortable. Lately the liquid lipstick I have been favoring is Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in “Baci”. This is a beautiful mauve shade, that doesn’t budge. It goes smoothly with no patches, wears all day long (seriously this stuff won’t budge), and is pretty comfortable to wear. Another drugstore option I am fond of is Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick in Iconic Iris, it is a darker purple mauve with a glitter like blue sheen that is beautiful on the lips. This one is also very longwearing, but not as comfortable, so I would recommend a good lip balm with this one especially.

Also, If you are having trouble getting a liquid lipstick off when you actually want to get it off try using some olive oil on a cotton round. Liquid lipsticks are not fond of oil, so I would also not recommend any super oily foods unless you want them to come off quick and in a hurry.

Thank you for reading along today, I hope you saw a thing or two to try out for yourself. Even if you only learned that I more days than not have a naked face, or that I used to load on pink eye shadow, I am ok with that if you are.

If you would like to see a future post with some not flattering throwback photos of me in bright eye shadows and too much eyeliner comment below and let me know.

I would also love to hear what some of your favorite products are, comment and give me something new to try.

As always, I hope you have an amazing and beautiful day!

How I discovered my very own fountain of youth..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Ok, so fountain of youth may be a little dramatic of a claim. But to be fair, getting a skincare routine that works for you as early as possible doesn’t exactly hurt the aging process either.

As a teenager I couldn’t have had a second thought about skincare outside of washing my face in the shower and maybe putting on some lotion if my face felt a little dry. I was one who was blessed with pretty, for lack of a better word, awesome skin as a teenager. It was mostly blemish free, and bounced back from everything I threw at it. Heading into my early twenties it soon became a reality that this was not always going to be the case, and that reality set in quick and in a hurry.

Early in my twenties I began to get blemishes from things I had never considered before, lots of texture across my forehead, as well as wrinkles that began to set in. When the wrinkles on your face don’t go away after your “pillow face” goes away in the morning, it can be a cause for a mild (or maybe not so mild) freak out.

Luckily I was smart enough to pay attention and begin searching out a skincare regimen that worked for me and my skin. Below, I will go through the steps I use to take care of my biggest organ and hopefully share some things that may help you on your own personal trial and error journey.

Before I begin, a disclaimer that seems a little silly to me, but “better safe than sorry” mother always says, right? Right. I am not a doctor of any variation, skin, surgeon, family, or even psyche. None of the above. I am not a professional in any field other than possibly drinking coffee and sleeping in, if many years of experience count you as a professional in those particular fields. I am not telling you to do any of this, and I am not saying my way is the best, I am simply sharing a piece of my day with you. Now! On to the routine!

First and foremost, I always, always, ALWAYS try to get my skincare in every single day, at least once a day. Even if it is a shortened version, with only the most necessary steps. I try to never go to sleep with my makeup on. I say try, because none of us are perfect.  After removing my makeup with a makeup removing wipe, I wash my face with my Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser. This cleanser is gentle, natural, and really seems to get the job done always leaving my feeling squeaky clean at the end. It has a pleasant natural scent to it that is not over bearing, and I really have no complaints. Next I move onto an optional step for me, the face mask. Pictured above the Nip+Fab Bee Sting Lifting Mask is a good option for firming up the skin and giving it some bounce back. This mask is a little much for those with sensitive skin however. Some other masks I use that may be more suited to sensitive skin are from the Freeman Beauty range, and I really can’t recommend their WIDE range of masks more. After a little relaxing face mask, I jump into using my Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads. Now these little pads I cannot leave out of my routine, they are my saving grace when it comes to resurfacing all of the aforementioned texture on my forehead. I had tried everything to try to get rid of that texture, nothing else had worked. Until I stumbled upon these, and the rest is smooth forehead history.

I then follow those up with a toner, this Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleansing Lotion is a gem when it comes to that. It smells wonderful and clean, and helps with the stripped feeling I get after the last few steps. I squirt some onto a cotton round and wipe all over my face to restore the PH balance in my skin. The exfoliating cotton rounds pictured above are my favorite. The quilted cotton side is great for toner, and the exfoliating side works wonderfully with a micellar water and even works to help ease the pain of removing any sort of glitter polish. Anything that will help with a glitter nail polish is a divine gift, and we all know it. Once the toner sinks into my face, I then move onto my serum. I generally switch between a vitamin C serum to lighten skin discoloration and the Medyskin Pure Hydration Hyaluronic Serum. This serum helps to pump some moisture back into my skin,  I do not have fully dry skin but rather dry to normal, so it also does not turn me into a grease ball, which I am also thankful for. It just leaves my skin plump, hydrated and looking 16 again. Ok, maybe not 16, but it definitely looks more youthful.

Another thing I have sworn by to keep my face looking a little more youthful is the regular use of an eye cream. Now, I also have a strange habit of not only using eye cream around the tender skin of my eyes, but also to put a layer on and around the edges of my lips while I’m at it. I do have a reason for it, just trust me here. One of the quickest ways to identify an aging face other than the obvious wrinkle based red flags, lies with the edges of the lips. The color begins to fade from the edges of your lips as you age, they look less full and less youthfull in the process. To aid in this process I put eye cream around these ages to keep collagen in that area and to reduce the fading process as well. Worst case scenario, my lips get an extra layer of moisture that no other lip balm can hold a candle to.  The one I am using at the moment is the Lanoline Age-Defying Eye Cream with added benefits from Manuka honey, Kiwifruit seed oil and Vitamin-E. I then move onto something that maybe isn’t necessary, but to be honest I like the promise of fuller lashes, because I’m a girl who loves the look of false lashes, but hates putting them on. I know I am not alone on that one. I found this Sculpt Lash Revive Lengthening Serum, and I figured I would give it a try. I can let you know the progress, let me know in the comments if that’s something you would be interested in. Nearly done now, I use my Simple Protecting Moisturizer with SPF 15. I particularly like this one because it has an SPF in it, not a high one, but one none the less.

Last but certainly not least I have my two face finishing products in this arduous skincare routine that I SWEAR looks a lot longer in text format than it actually takes to complete. I cannot resist a refreshing spray of my Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater. It is incredibly refreshing and it smells like ROSES, how could I resist, really? Following that, another rose scented favorite my Smith’s Rosebud Salve. This is a balm like no other, it stays put, makes my lips feel as soft as rose petals (see what I did there?), and again, smells like ROSES.

That was a long one, but hopefully full of lots of information that maybe you can apply to your own skincare routine. Maybe you discovered some new products or saw one you already use.

Let me know in the comments what your favorite part of your routine is, I would really like to know! Let’s have a conversation and try to find the best of the best together!

Wishing you the most beautiful of days!

Retail Therapy

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Retail Therapy can be a real thing for many of us, not all, but many. There is something so profound about walking around aimlessly for hours perusing the aisles of store after store that really calms my inner soul. I may go to the store and spend 3 hours looking at things, putting them in my basket, and taking them back out again only to spend $20 on a few things that really stole the show. Many times it is not about what I am buying, or what I walk out with. It is the relaxing idea of just looking at all of the pretty things. Nothing to stress about, no time frame to keep a close eye on, and certainly nobody demanding anything from you. Just you, your shopping cart and aisle upon aisle of possible purchases.

Things have been particularly stressful in the last few weeks as we bite the bitter end of winter here in Michigan. The weather has been erratic, the driving has been atrocious, and we are all ready to kiss the winter blues goodbye. This gave me the perfect excuse to indulge in a little retail therapy myself recently and I thought I would share a few of those pretty little things with you. After all, window shopping can still be a form of retail therapy.

Rue21 – $29.99

First off, we have these beautiful stunners here. I stepped into Rue21 and they are having a massive sale right now, basically everything is a clearance rack at the moment. I cannot find these particular shoes on their website currently, but there are lots of other gorgeous styles to choose from that are certainly worth a look.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Also at Rue21 , I was caught up in their home décor section. While it is not large, it is certainly enticing. There are a few bedding sets, change jars marked for “Tattoo Funds”, “Shopping Funds” and even one for a “Beach Vacation”, and wall plaques with various sayings, among other things. Most of these things are very cute, but I was personally snagged by the mug collection. It was a tough choice between the one shaped like a donut, and this one. “Namast’ay In Bed” just seems to speak volumes for me, so for a whopping $4.99 this giant mug came home with me as well.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Aeropostale – $13.00

I wandered a little further up the row in my local mall, only to be sucked in by a 60% off sale happening at Aeropostale. Unfortunately, by the time this post goes up that sale will be over. However, they frequently have other sales, so keep an eye out! As I looked over everything a few things caught my eye, including these adorable and summer ready studs. While I once again could not find this anywhere on their site, here are a few adorable options that are very similar.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Jessica Simpson Sunglasses – TJMaxx – $16.99

I found these adorable Jessica Simpson sunglasses in my local TJMaxx, my go-to store for awesome finds. I can’t wait for the sun to shine in Michigan to be able to sport these adorable white and rose gold aviators.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Ulta – Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Baci (116 A) –  $24.99

I personally cannot walk past an Ulta without going in to see what they have, even if I have seen the options a million times. I feel like there is always something new to look at and drool over, am I the only one? I have been on the hunt for the perfect mauve nude liquid lipstick for quite a while now, and I think Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the color  Baci (116 A) may have hit the nail on this one. The formula is a not too thick, but not a watery thin consistency, it is not incredibly drying, and it fairly comfortable for a liquid lipstick. I have not noticed any patchiness with this particular one, however they do dry darker than it looks in the tube, so I would definitely recommend swatching it on your hand and waiting to see what color turns out to be before deciding what color is right for you.

That is it for this particular shopping trip, but I am sure there are many more to come. After all, retail therapy is always in need.

Is there anything you would like to see me pick up on my next adventure to give a review on? Let me know in the comments!
