Day 70: it's Thanksgiving.
This is my favorite holiday because it reminds me that I don't NEED any thing.
I have never participated in Black Friday until this year, and funnily enough, I couldn't be happier to be part of it. I wouldn't have anything to do with it if I didn't have this job. I don't need any thing, but I need this job. And all of the caffeine to get me through the whole weekend.

There's a thing that happens to photographers that you wouldn't expect: at some point, we become -- at least, we FEEL like -- part of the families that trust us and our cameras.
So when tragedy strikes, we feel it. Hard.
My dear friend Amaris Hames shot Steve & Rachael's wedding. Earlier this year, Steve & Rachael found out they were pregnant with a baby girl. On Wednesday, October 22nd, 2014, Rachael was taken to the ER as she wasn't feeling well. While there, she suffered a seizure, which resulted in her falling into a coma. Not long after, a second seizure occurred, which led to a stroke. Just a few hours later, their sweet baby, Ruth, came into the world 14 weeks early.
Last night, the doctor's began treatment for what they're calling "their last resort". Rachael continues to not stabilize and continues to fight everything. They are putting her body into a near-flatline coma, which she may not survive.
If you're the praying type, do it. If you're the good vibes and positive thoughts type, those are welcome too. Because we believe in miracles.
And for all my couples out there, I love you so much, I can't even tell you. Being able to tell part of your story with my camera brings me a joy I can't describe. You humble me. You challenge me. I'm thankful for you all every single day I breathe.
It was an honest to goodness honor to be part of this whole night and I'm so excited for the chance to meet so many excellent and talented individuals. Seeing my friends perform was just the fudge on the sundae. #phosstudios #bonniejeankoenn

Day 61: having a job this holiday season. Next weekend will be the first in my WHOLE life that I have ventured to a shopping center for Black Friday, only catch is I won't be buying anything.

"Wait you eat alone?"
I do. I love it.
Living in North Carolina, most of the time I had no other option. I learned just how amazing it is to not only treat yourself, but to DATE yourself.
I do a lot of things alone. But oh, I'm never lonely.
It's been two years. And three days from now marks two years since it all ended. I'm thankful for the men who serve our country with pride and dignity. I'm thankful for the women who stand by them. I'm even more thankful that it isn't me. Happy birthday, USMC.
I talk a big game about not really wanting to have babies. That doesn't mean my heart doesn't ache to me a mom one day. Just... Different than most people want to be (nothing about pregnancy appeals to me). When I went through the hell that was puppy-sitting Raven, my heart was so broken when I realized this wasn't just how animals are treated -- so many children are neglected, forced out of foster care, and living lives where they don't have anyone in their corner to support and love them.
Did you know that there are something like 57 Christians for every orphan in America? Yeah. That's real. And it breaks all of me. Because we could completely fix this problem. #WorldAdoptionDay
